Essaouira is a walled port town on the Atlantic coast, west of Marrakech. Its fortified medina dates from the 18th century and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. After days inland, the sea air and the pace are a change.
Most visitors walk along the ramparts, wander through the medina and spend time at the fishing port, where fish is grilled to order. The bay is windy, which makes it a place for windsurfing and kitesurfing.
