Trekker walking beside a mule carrying luggage on a mountain trail

Imlil (1,740 m) is the village in the High Atlas where the trails to Mount Toubkal begin. It is about an hour and a half by car from Marrakech, so it works for a short trek as well as for a longer one. Toubkal (4,167 m) is the highest peak in North Africa.

Three ways up Toubkal

  • 3 day trek: the shortest route. Day 1 follows the Mizane Valley to the Toubkal Refuge (3,207 m), day 2 is the summit, day 3 the way back to Marrakech.
  • 4 day trek: you first cross the Tizi Mzik pass into the Azzaden Valley and sleep in a mountain gite, which lets you gain height more gradually before summit day.
  • 5 day trek: a circuit through the Azzaden Valley, over the Tazaghart plateau and past Lake Ifni to the refuge and the summit.

All three start in Marrakech and end with a transfer back there. Not sure which fits your time and fitness? Write to us through the contact page, or describe a different plan on the Customized Trips page. For the wider mountain range, see Atlas Mountains.
