Marrakech Day Trips: private excursions by car

Six private day trips from Marrakech, from the Agafay desert (under an hour away) to Essaouira and Casablanca (about three hours each way). Compare the distances and request a quote.

Marrakech sits between the High Atlas, the desert edge and the Atlantic coast, so a surprising amount of Morocco is within a day’s drive. The six trips below are all private: you leave from your hotel or riad in Marrakech, you set the time, and the driver and the plan are yours for the day. We are a team based in Marrakech, and our guides are licensed. If you plan a day or two in the city first, our Marrakech guide covers what to see.

Distances are approximate and published figures vary a little with the route. Longer trips mean five to six hours in the vehicle, so we say plainly on each page whether the day is worth it for what you see.

How to choose

Pick by what you want to do with the day. If you want to be outdoors with little driving, choose the Agafay desert or Imlil. If you want water and a proper walk, choose Ouzoud. If you want a town by the sea, choose Essaouira, and if you want the big modern city and the mosque, choose Casablanca. With children or older travellers, the shorter drives are usually the easier days. Our pages say how much walking each trip involves.

The Agafay trip needs one honest note: the desert there is rocky hills, not sand dunes, and the camel ride and other activities on site are arranged with a local partner agency. If you want the Sahara itself, see our desert tours from Marrakech. If it is the mountains you want, read about Mount Toubkal trekking, and if none of these fits, we will plan a different route.

Frequently asked questions

Are these day trips private?

Yes. Every trip we run is private, so the vehicle, the timing and the plan are for your group only. You choose the pick-up time and the pace.

Which day trip is closest to Marrakech?

The Agafay desert, about 30 to 40 km away and 40 to 60 minutes by road, then the Ourika Valley (its start is about 40 km out, Setti Fatma 62 to 65 km) and Imlil in the High Atlas (about 65 km), each an hour and a half to two hours away. Essaouira, Ouzoud and Casablanca are each around two and a half to three hours each way.

Can we do two destinations in one day?

Two long drives in one day are tiring, so we normally recommend one main destination per day. A short trip can be paired with a longer one in some cases, for example a walk near Imlil in the morning and the Agafay sunset in the evening. Ask us and we will tell you honestly whether it works.

Where do you pick us up?

At your hotel or riad in Marrakech, at the time you choose.

Are your guides and vehicles licensed?

Our guides are licensed, and we hold the tourist transport authorisation that is required to carry visitors in Morocco.

How much does a day trip cost?

We quote per group, once we know the date, the number of travellers and what you would like included, such as a guide, lunch or an overnight stay. Send the details through the quote form and we reply with one clear price.
